What is FANA?
FANA is the Faubourg Avart Neighborhood Association. It was organized in 2011 when neighbors living near Magazine Street, between Upperline and Valmont streets realized that they did not have an active neighborhood association. FANA was incorporated in 2012 as a non-profit association. The boundaries are Upperline, Tchoupitoulas, Valmont and Prytania streets.
Why the name Avart?
Francois Robert Avart was the owner of the plantation above present day Upperline Street. In 1841, Avart divided up his land establishing Faubourg Avart. All of the new streets in the Faubourg were named after members of Robert’s family or his daughter’s husband’s family.
Who we are?
Any residents or businesses located within the boundaries are eligible and encouraged to join. Current board members are listed here.
When we meet?
General Meetings for the neighborhood are scheduled 3 times per year. The current schedule is January, April and September. We publicize the dates and location as soon as we confirm via Facebook and NextDoor, as well as here.
